Andrea Nakano from San Diego 6 News interviewed Linda Pluth and Jack Chapman at the Japanese Friendship Garden fundraiser on November 22.
The fundraiser was on Saturday, November 22 from 3-6 with tables and chairs set out by the administration building.
There was entertainment provided by koto and guitar and light snacks and beverages. The interview comprised what
happened at the pond to kill all but one fish, how we felt about it, what we're doing to prevent it from happening
again, what we're doing to start the collection over again, etc. Linda and Jack also did two koi classification talks
in the Activity Center with the assistance of Galen Hansen who brought his koi charts to help us in our talks. The two
audiences had some very good questions and appreciated everything that our club does for JFG (cleaning the pond,
maintaining water quality, managing the fish, providing docents on Tuesdays and Saturdays and speaking at special
events). This fundraiser was the kickoff of a continuing effort to raise money to provide quality koi for the pond
as well as money for medical treatment and maintenance. It was good to see the JFG Board's commitment, in that their
response to the tragedy of losing fish is creating an even better collection to enhance the centerpiece of the Garden
which is the koi pond.
